Calling for Written Submissions to the ICJ AO on Climate Change

Vanuatu's Prime Minister, the Hon. Charlot Salwai Tabimasmas, urges nations to make submissions to the upcoming Advisory Opinion (AO) on climate change. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) plans to issue a historic Advisory Opinion on State's responsibilities on climate, and the rights of present and future generations next year.

The ICJ actively invites written submissions from member states for this global initiative before the January 22, 2024 deadline. Vanuatu is also offering free legal services to support drafting submissions.

The AO is important for Pacific nations as it will be crucial for the Pacific's survival, facing effects of climate change that they did little to cause, and guaranteeing homes for its people for generations to come.
