Tāua e Moana - Ocean & I

I joined this historical voyage on the Marumaru Atua vaka across the entire Pa 'enua (outer islands).
The voyage, called Tāua e Moana - Ocean & I, was an opportunity for those island communities to share knowledge and any concerns they may have about our ocean, and for those on the vaka to raise awareness about the current and/ or potential threats to the health of the Moana Nui o Kiva (Pacific Ocean).

Our team consisted of 17, and departed Rarotonga on the morning of 16th June headed for Aitutaki which was the beginning of a 7 week voyage to the northern group, the Pa 'enua Tokerau, returning to Rarotonga in August. In September 2021, a second voyage set out for the southern group, the Pa 'enua Tonga returning 2 weeks later and completing a 9 week voyage in total.

Part of the discussion about our ocean health is the issue of deep sea mining. We need to think carefully about it!
